Atenea IX - Jardinero V x Decorosa IV

Pure Spanish Andalusian Mare, Pura Raza Espanola (PRE), Cria Approved, Imported from Spain

Dam of Nobleza D, Grand-Dam of Jandira DD

Atenea IX (pronounced ah ten AY ah) was a GORGEOUS bay Andalusian mare imported from Spain.

I first met Atenea IX at Beverly and Richard's Denham Ranch in Aubrey, Texas. I watched several of her Andalusian foals grow up. Nobleza D was Atenea's last foal ever born. Nobleza means "noble" in Spanish.

After Nobleza D was born, a breeding accident caused Atenea IX to become infertile. Atenea was then retired and sold by Denham Ranch in 2001. Atenea's daughter, Melena D, a full sister to Nobleza D, was retained by Denham Ranch and eventually became a part of the Pure Spanish Andalusian herd belonging to Kimberly Denham Walters (Kimric Farm, Breeders of PRE Horses for Dressage).

Atenea IX is a daughter of the Spanish stallion Jardinero V, and is therefore very closely related to the famous black Andalusian stallion Genio III (Genio's dam AND sire were sired by Jardinero V).

Atenea carries the "beauty" genes of her imported bay dam Decorosa IV (now deceased, dam of Favorito D) as well as the genetics for producing bays and blacks. Atenea herself is bay, and she has produced both bay and black, as well as grey.

Decorosa IV was a Carlos Montijano-branded Spanish mare with military and Escalera breeding. Decorosa was imported to the United States by Denham Ranch (she was in foal with Atenea). Decorosa IV's sire, Ebano, was a famous black military stallion sired by the equally famous stallion Maluso.

Andalusian horses are registered with the International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) in the United States and are known as the Pura Raza Española (PRE) in Spain. Our bloodstock originate from Denham Ranch and Herradura Andalusians - two of the largest Andalusian horse breeders in Texas.
