Spanish Horses Are Made for Dressage

In his article, “We have made the Spanish Horse into what it is on an international level we wanted to cross new frontiers and we did,” (Historical and Current Stallions of the Purebred Spanish Horse), Alvaro Domecq Romero, states this regarding making a Grand Prix horse using Spanish Horses (PREs/Andalusians)-

“You must select, you must build it, and you must read the papers of origin. I select based on the fact that I have ridden the father, grandfather, great-grandfather, mother and even grandmother…”

“Bit by bit we have made our horse capable of executing all the tests required nowadays in dressage with the highest precision. Steadily, our horses began travelig to championships and Olympic trials around the world. Today, we see these medals hanging on our walls which serve as an impetus for this wonderful breed and their riders.”

“The pleasure of riding a Spanish horse … is unmatched ... he needs a proper selection and precise training method in order to understand what his rider desires. it is a horse that takes time and because of this we say “with horses and men, practice makes perfect.”

Also, in this book, several noted relatives of Stryker are covered including his military heritage to Maluso/Agente and his sire Ermitano III.

Alvaro Domecq Romero is the former director of the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre.
